Let’s build a garden that grows with you
Expert guidance in planning, setting up and maintaining kitchen and herb gardens and native beds
What we provide
It all starts with a one hour consultation. I will visit you in your space to discuss your goals and how you want to use your garden. I share guidance on the right setup, timing and strategy for your garden. This can work for an existing or a brand new space. Afterward, you get a set of tailored recommendations and a sketch of your ideal garden space based on our discussion.
Welcome to Catoctin Gardenworks, where my love of growing things has become a way to help people connect with the living world just outside their doors. Whether you’re dreaming of a productive kitchen garden, a pollinator‑friendly planting, or simply a few herbs on a sunny patio, I help you grow with confidence — working with your space, your goals, and the rhythms of the land.
I work with individuals, businesses and community groups in Frederick County Maryland and provide garden consulting, coaching, workshops and plans customized to your goals and location.
I create a plan shaped by your goals, local conditions, and what feels achievable for you. Whether your goal is to grow food, flowers or habitat, or all three, we can design a beautiful and functional garden to set you up for success and enjoyment in your space. Price varies with square footage and complexity.
With clear guidance and steady support, you gain the confidence to tend your garden well. With ongoing coaching, I can help you know how to plant, tend, and harvest your garden throughout the seasons. Subscribe for a series of three one hour hands-on coaching sessions (scheduled individually) to ensure your knowledge and skills are growing along with your plants.
About
Gardening has been a thread throughout my life, beginning in my childhood in West Virginia when I helped my family tend our garden and preserve food each year. While I didn’t know it at the time, those early experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for plants, soil, and the cycles of nature—a latent love of horticulture that I eagerly returned to as an adult.
As soon as I had the chance while living in Washington DC, I joined a community garden which helped scratch the itch I was feeling to work the soil and watch things grow. But I dreamed of one day having a little land of my own to expand my efforts. For the past five years, that dream has been realized in Frederick County Maryland, where I have nurtured my own garden and landscape while deepening my understanding of the challenges and rewards of sustainable practices. Throughout this personal journey, I have always held a strong concern for conservation of the environment, in particular soil health and biodiversity, values that guide both my gardening and my outlook on community engagement.
When the federal agency where I worked a full career was closed in 2025, I jumped at the chance to start my own business. Lending credence to the saying that every open patch of soil is a chance to grow something new, I founded Catoctin Gardenworks at a moment of transition in my own life. Now every time I help a client create a garden that is both beautiful and practical, I feel the excitement of watching a new plant emerge from its seed. So in some ways my life has circled back around to my early days planting and eating peas in the garden.
Today, I work with homeowners and small businesses to create kitchen and herb gardens and pollinator-friendly spaces, rooted in the Catoctin mountain region. Whether you’re dreaming of a productive vegetable garden, a welcoming habitat for birds and bees, or simply a few herbs on a sunny patio, I meet you where you are and help you grow with confidence.
My approach is rooted in ecological stewardship, local knowledge, and the belief that gardens should nourish both people and the land. Together, we can grow food, grow beauty, and grow habitat — and rediscover the joy that comes from working with nature, one garden at a time.
